Paul Sayers
Conceptual Painter I b. UK I Lives and works in St Leonards-on-Sea.
Paul Sayers is a British conceptual painter who explores the hidden meanings and systems that influence how we see, experience and navigate our daily life.
He makes collections focused around a particular idea or detail of our lives. It often takes many months of exploration before committing the idea to canvas, paper or any other suitable surface that he chooses to best communicate the idea. That is why his collections can be stylistically very different.
Paul believes that nothing should leave the studio unless it can be intellectually justified as well as aesthetically complete.
With over 30 years of experience, Paul has worked across painting and three-dimensional design. He is a graduate of Central saint Martins, where he also spent many years as a Senior Lecturer.
Paul has associations with both the South Coast Artists Group (SoCo) and Hastings Arts Forum (HAF), where he also serves as a trustee. In 2024/25, he participated in the TURPS East Sussex Mentoring Programme.
Paul has exhibited widely, including twice at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and has held solo exhibitions at The Barbican Centre and the Royal Air Force Museum Gallery in London, where his work is represented in the permanent collection. He has also exhibited internationally, with a solo show at Insead Gallery in France, as well as numerous group exhibitions.
