Robert Sample’s paintings draw on the language of the old masters while remaining rooted in the present, fusing the energy of street art with traditional technique. Working on industrial ply, he uses oil paint, gesso, stencils, spray paint and everyday materials to evoke flesh, fat, skin, bone and muscle. Rather than realism, Sample pursues visual impact. His work explores humanity at its extremes, drawing attention to what is often overlooked. He invites viewers to create their own narratives, engaging with familiar emotions and experiences while revealing the absurdities and beauty of human nature.
